Nodes · reverse DNS under sextant.gg
If a sextant.gg host appears in your log
Sextant measures the population of private MMO servers. Every probe we send comes from a host listed on this page, with reverse DNS under sextant.gg, so you can tell our traffic apart from a scan.
What a sighting is
A sighting is one read of your server's publicly visible status: whether it is online, the player count where the game protocol reports one, and the round-trip latency. Nodes take up to twelve sightings an hour per server, rate-limited per host.
A probe never attempts to authenticate, never creates an account, never sends game traffic beyond the status handshake the game client itself uses, and never scans ports other than the one your server publishes.

Opting out
If you run a server and do not want it measured, write to nodes@sextant.gg from an address on the server's domain, naming the host. We stop probing within 24 hours.
An unmeasured server can stay listed, but its figures become the owner's own numbers and the listing says so — the dead reckoning class. We never present a claimed figure as a measured one.
